New Access Point Funding Model

Access Points (APs) across Grounds are funded via one of three different cost models:

  1. ITS Communication services headcount fees: In most case schools and units in the academic division are included in the institutional assessment headcount reported each fall. This model covers access points installed in General Use areas per Wireless Design Standards for associated University departments. This recurring funding also covers future upgrade costs.
  2. Device-based fees: Foundations and/or external entities that pay for the University Telephone service are provided WiFi coverage for primary office spaces and adjacent conference rooms. This recurring funding also covers future AP upgrade costs.
  3. One-time funding: WiFi coverage can be obtained for Special Use areas by directly funding AP installations (equipment and labor). Equipment funded in this manner must be funded at each upgrade cycle.
