UVa Wireless Network

Connect to UVa’s Encrypted cavalier Wireless Network

Wireless (or “Wi-Fi”) Configuration Instructions

Requirements for Connecting to the cavalier Wireless Network

  • You must be a faculty, staff, or student at UVa to follow these instructions, and your device must have Wi-Fi enabled.
  • If you are a guest of the University or are setting up wireless access for a guest, see Guest Wireless Access Instructions.

Setup Options for cavalier Wireless (or “Wi-Fi”) Network

There are 3 options for setting up your access to the UVa cavalier wireless network:

Option 1: Use a Wireless Connection to Run the Automated Tool

  1. Connect to the UVa wireless network called Welcome_to_UVa_Wireless.
If needed, view a screenshot and detailed instructions on how to do this for your computer or device:
  2. Open your Web browser to access the Network Setup Tool. Once you’re connected to the Welcome_to_UVa_Wireless “Wi-Fi” network, open a Web browser such as Safari, Internet Explorer, or Firefox. You’ll be automatically redirected to the Network Setup site.
  3. Download and run the appropriate ITS Network Setup Tool for your operating system. The Tool will automatically install a personal digital certificate on your computer or device and configure it to access UVa’s encrypted cavalier wireless network.
  4. After the Tool runs, ensure that cavalier is now your wireless network. If the Network Setup Tool did not make cavalier your preferred wireless network (or list it first at the top of your available wireless networks), be sure to make it your preferred “Wi-Fi”network and list it at the top.
    • You only use Welcome_to_UVa_Wireless for first-tme setup. After that, you will always connect to the cavalier wireless network instead.

Problems or Issues?

If, at any time, you have problems with wireless, you may be able to repair them by running the Network Setup Tool again. See also Network Setup Tool Troubleshooting.
