“Lock the Doors, Close the Windows, and Check Under the Bed: Avoiding Scareware and Other Creepy Crawlies That Target Technology”

- Description: This session covered the latest technology security information that every user should know:
- how to avoid phishing and smishing scams,
- what to do if you receive questionable email/sms messages,
- How to tell if an email/link/pop-up is legitimate or malicious (examples of current scam attempts will be shown),
- how to create safe passwords,
- how to avoid malware and scareware, and
- what UVa security resources are available.
Other Past Byte Size Seminars Have Included...
Access from the Ground Up - We'll map out a strategy for designing a database. We'll determine tables and table structure, relationships, primary keys, and data integrity. Come prepared to create a database from scratch!
Excel Pivot Tables - Explore new ways to look at and layout your data without making multiple spreadsheets. In this session, we'll create pivot tables and forms for faster and better data interpretation.
Word Versions - Its hard when you have several version of the same document to combine. In this session, we'll enter comments, work with revisions through track changes, and manage versions of the document.
Inserting Movies and Sounds in Powerpoint - MP3s are all the rage these days. We'll look at ways to add life to your PowerPoint by inserting sound and video clips into your presentations.
Advanced Filtering and Comparisons in Excel - You may have used the autofilter tool before, but filtering has more to offer than that. In this session, we'll create our own filters and use them. We'll also compare two lists of data quickly and easily to see if they are the same or not!
Access - Enhancing Forms - Make your forms easier to use buy adding text boxes, combo boxes, drop downs, and radio buttons. We'll improve form functionality and cover how to link the forms to the tables the info needs to go to!
