Stata

Statistical Package

Stata is an advanced, fully programmable statistical package with complete statistical, graphical, and data-management capabilities.

About Stata

Stata 11 Intercooled (IC) can be used on computers in the UVa ITS public labs. Stata may also be accessed from anywhere by using the Hive, a virtual software delivery technology for access to specialized software programs using the Internet.

The Research Computing Support Group has entered into an agreement with the Stata Corporation making the University of Virginia a GradPlan site for Stata statistical software. Under the GradPlan, faculty, staff and students can now obtain Stata software at reduced, academic pricing, and the software can be installed on home or office computers, either UVa or personally owned. Stata can be used on Windows, Mac OS, Linux and UNIX platforms. To obtain software under this plan, individuals contact Stata directly to order Stata software and documentation. They can then pick up their materials the next business day from the Research Computing Support Center which holds a supply of materials in inventory. Prices for individual purchase using the GradPlan software and documentation can be found on the Stata website.

How to Obtain Stata

The process for obtaining your own copy of Stata is somewhat unique. The process is as follows:

  • You contact Stata directly and order your software from the Stata GradPlan.
  • At 4PM of the day (weekdays only) that you order your copy of Stata, ITS will receive an email from Stata containing the activation codes.
  • As soon as we fulfill your order, we will send you an email telling you that your Stata is ready for delivery. The Stata DVDs are already located on Grounds.
  • After you receive the email from ITS, you may pick up your Stata from The Scholars' Lab in Alderman Library between the hours of 9AM-5PM weekdays, and by special arrangement with ITS.
