IP Address Space at UVa

This page describes the overall IP (Internet protocol) address space in use at the University of Virginia.

UVa owns 2 class B public networks and has the use of parts of a third. Public IP address space can connect to other public addresses anywhere on the Internet. Addresses and networks in the UVa public address space must be allocated by hostmaster@virginia.edu or by the ITS DHCP servers.

In addition UVa makes use of private IP address space. No private IP address attached to the UVa network can be seen or accessed anywhere outside the UVa network.

These wireless networks have outbound access to the Internet through network address translation, which provides a temporary public IP address.
