Fiber Leasing

About This Service

Because special projects, such as videoconferencing, require significant amounts of available fiber, ITS has established a fee-based fiber leasing service to departments. Fiber leasing is dependent on fiber availability. Rates were established based on cost experience over several years.

  • Leasing is only available in special circumstances.
  • Leases are available by annual contract.
  • Maintenance for the leased line is available Monday through Friday from 8AM to 5PM.
  • Time to repair is not guaranteed because of previous commitments, but an estimate of repair time will be given.
  • Fiber connections between any two points are not guaranteed at all times since, in the event of a shortage, ITS may need to temporarily take over a leased line.

Fees

  • $250.00 for setup plus time and materials for installation.
  • $0.10 per foot per fiber per year leasing charge, payable one year in advance.
  • Diagnosis of network problems will be billed by the hour; current rate is $40.00 per hour.
  • The department is responsible for repair charges for problems not related to the fiber.
  • Email ITS Network Operations for additional information on pricing.

Please direct requests for information or repairs to the UVa Help Desk at 434-924-HELP (434-924-4357). To arrange for the installation or activation of new ports and other Network Operations services use the Network Operations Work Order Request form.
