NetBadge at UVa

About the NetBadge Service

What Is NetBadge?

When a University website, service, or application needs to know your identity, it automatically redirects you to NetBadge first, to verify your identity before granting you access. NetBadge protects many resources at UVa.

You authenticate through NetBadge using either:

  • your personal digital certificate (a faster, more secure login method), or
  • your UVa computing ID and password on a compatible system. (Note: Applicants for admission to UVa and SCPS students must use this password login option.)

See how to log into NetBadge and more info about single sign-on at UVa.

Enhanced NetBadge

If, after logging into “regular” NetBadge, you are presented with an additional NetBadge login screen, then you are attempting to access a resource which requires an extra level of identity assurance for your protection. You will need to log into Enhanced NetBadge to access it.

Important NetBadge Security Reminders

Don’t Fall for Scams!

Remember, always verify that you are on the real UVa NetBadge page first.

Cybercriminals may try to trick you into revealing your UVa password by presenting a fake, lookalike NetBadge page. To check that the NetBadge screen you see is real:

  1. Look at the NetBadge URL in the top of your Web browser. The address should:
    1. include an s (as in https), and
    2. match this URL exactly: https://netbadge.virginia.edu.
  2. If you notice any discrepancy from the official NetBadge URL, do not continue. This is the only URL you should trust. Accept no imitations, as they may indicate a phishing scam targeting members of the UVa community!

Protect Yourself: Completely Log Out of NetBadge
