Downloading and Installing Version 1.0.9 with Windows XP
On-Grounds: This page covers downloading and installation of Home Directory Service version 1.0.9 on Windows XP computers on-Grounds.
Off-Grounds: If you want to install and use HDS 1.0.9 off-Grounds, you must first install the Cisco Virtual Private network (VPN), and configure it to use UVa Anywhere.
Before You Begin
- You must be logged in to your Windows XP computer as an Administrator or have administrative-level access before you can install this utility properly. (Windows XP "Home" users are given administrative-level access by default when they set up the first accounts on the system.)
- You must have a working connection to the University computing network.
Downloading the Home Directory Service 1.0.9 Login Program
- Download the Home Directory Service Login Program 1.0.9 from ITS's Software Central. (Note: Do not download Home Directory Service version 2.0 unless you're on a computer running Windows Vista, or your Local Support Person (LSP) instructed you to do so.)
- Save it to your Desktop, so it's easy to find.
Installing the Home Directory Service 1.0.9 Login Program
It's best to uninstall any older versions of this program first, if you have any, and close any open applications, before you begin this installation.
- Double-click on the homedir.exe file you downloaded or saved to your Desktop.
- Follow the prompts, which is the same as take the Defaults, until you click on the Finish button.
- You're now ready to begin accessing Home Directory version 1.0.9.
