Home Directory Service

Connecting to Other Web Servers for Web Maintenance

The Home Directory Service may be used to maintain Web pages on Curry, ITSWeb, www.virginia.edu, faculty.virginia.edu, or indorgs.virginia.edu.

When connecting to the servers as disk drives, use your Eservices login id and password (specify your username as ESERVICES\id). Connections with secure FTP (SFTP) clients and FTP built into Web editors are made using your UNIX ID and password for the machine specified in the connections.

Connect using the Home Directory Login Program

For Windows users, all you need to do is enter virginia.edu in your DNS configuration search path. This is the default setting for UVa's Windows network configuration. If that's not possible, use the alternate name given below or contact the UVa Help Desk for further instructions.

To connect, enter the appropriate directory path into the Home Directory Login Program listed below:

  • for the Curry School, enter \\curry.edschool\www (alt. \\curry.edschool.virginia.edu\www)
  • for JM, enter \\jm.acs\www (alt. \\jm.acs.virginia.edu\www)
  • for www.virginia.edu, enter \\home2\www (alt. \\home2.virginia.edu\www)
  • for faculty.virginia.edu, enter \\home2\faculty (alt. \\home2.virginia.edu\faculty)
  • for indorgs.virginia.edu, enter \\home2\indorgs (alt.\\home2.virginia.edu\indorgs)

Disconnect using the Home Directory Login Program

To disconnect from the server:

  1. Right-click on the Home Directory Login Program icon in the Windows SysTray (usually in the bottom right corner of your screen) and select "Disconnect." Or, open the application window by left-clicking on the icon in the SysTray and select Disconnect.
  2. For Curry and JM users, you'll need to manually unmap the drive. Go to My Computer on your desktop and select the drive that was mapped (to Curry or JM). Right-click on the icon and select Disconnect.
