UVa Centralized Exchange Service
Getting Started with UVa’s Centralized Calendar & Email System
Before you can use Exchange, you must first request an account on the UVa Centralized Exchange Service. The following steps outline how to get started using UVa Exchange:
- Activate your UVa computing ID (if needed: new employees only).
- Request an Exchange account.
- Create your primary address.
- Configure your device(s) to read your new Exchange account.
1. Activate Your Computing ID (if needed).
- If you’re new to UVa, you will need to activate your UVa computing ID first. After your name can be found via the “People Search” function on the main UVa website, then you can activate your computing ID.
- If you’re not new to the University and are just moving to Exchange from the Central Mail Service, then you can skip this step and proceed to Step 2, Request an Exchange account.
2. Request a UVa Centralized Exchange Account.
After your computing ID has been activated, you will have your password to use when you request your UVa Exchange Service account.
- Go to the Eservices Management Website and log in through NetBadge.
- Click Account Management.
- Then:
- For individuals requesting their own Exchange account: Select Exchange Tools.
- For LSPs & department administrators requesting on someone else’s behalf: Select LSP Exchange Tools. (This is a manual process and often happens more slowly than the individual account request process, which is automated.)
- Then:
- For individuals requesting their own Exchange account: Click the Request an Eservices / UVa Exchange Service Account and then click the Request Account button.
- For LSPs & department administrators requesting on someone else’s behalf: Read the instructions available through the Instructions For Requesting Accounts link and then use the Request New Accounts link to make your request(s).
3. Create Your Primary Address.
- Use the Email Address Management System to create your primary address—the email address UVa will use to send official notifications to you.
- Learn more about how to use the Email Address Management System to create your primary address.
4. Configure Your Device(s) for Your Exchange Account.
Finally, determine how you would like to access your new UVa Exchange account. You may want to be able to view your Exchange email and calendar in a variety of places:
- On the Web, from any device: You can use the Outlook Web App (OWA) to check your Exchange account from any device or computer.
- This option requires no setup other than visiting the website https://mail.eservices.virginia.edu.
- There is a convenient link to OWA from the UVa Email Switchboard and the ITS home page, but you may want to bookmark this website for easy access.
- OWA is viewable in any Web browser, but Internet Explorer provides the most features.

For most users at UVa, if you are upgrading your Microsoft Office on a University computer for work related to your job, then the license for upgrading is totally free!
