Mass Mailing Service
Distribution Types
You may choose one of three delivery methods for your message:
- Normal Distribution
- This type is used for most mass mail messages. It may take as long as 48 hours to begin the delivery of the message, though that time is often shorter. After delivery is begun, elapsed time between the receipt of the message by its first recipient and receipt by the last recipient can be 12 hours or longer, depending on the number of recipients selected.
- Emergency Distribution
- With this type, the message must, if possible, be delivered the day the request is received. Emergency Distribution is usually done only when a true emergency exists. Any message which, absent the capacity for mass mail email delivery, would be sent via the University's Messenger Mail Service is a likely a candidate for Normal Delivery rather than Emergency Delivery. After delivery is begun, elapsed time between the receipt of the message by its first recipient and receipt by the last recipient can be 12 hours or longer, depending on the number of recipients selected.
- Emergency Distribution with Rapid Delivery
- This type of message must, if possible, be delivered the day the request is received; and the elapsed time between the receipt of the message by its first recipient and receipt by the last recipient should be minimized. This type of delivery can put a strain on the mail system; it should be used only if an immediate emergency exists and delivery of the message must be as fast as possible.
