UVa's Email Virus Protection Service
Banned Attachment & MIME Types
UVa's Email Virus Protection Service drops messages which:
- have attachments that match known virus signatures, or
- which contain attachment and MIME types that appear on this page, or
- have attached unencrypted ZIP files containing files of the types on the banned attachment list,
and are sent:
- to any address of the form something@virginia.edu (e.g., mst3k@virginia.edu, mthomas@virginia.edu, or list_name@virginia.edu),
- to/from accounts on the Central Mail Service (e.g., mst3k@cms.mail.virginia.edu) unless the email is sent between two CMS accounts (in that case, the email never leaves the CMS to be checked),
- to the UVa Exchange Service, unless the email is sent from another UVa Exchange account (in that case, the email never leaves Exchange to be checked). Note: Email from a UVa Exchange account is not checked unless it is to a @virginia.edu or CMS address.
