ITS Computing Accounts

Lost Passwords/Changing Passwords

Which of the following describes you?

I have forgotten the password I use for NetBadge.
I would like to change a known password for one of my computing accounts.

What is your primary status at UVa?

Current student (including SCPS students enrolled in a class within the last 13 months)
Not yet a student (applicant for admission or newly admitted student who has not yet come on Grounds and completed the ID verification process)
University employee
UVa alumni

In what year did you graduate and become an alum?

Class of 2005 or earlier
Class of 2006 and later

Are you a student through the School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS)?

Yes No

Solution

If you're not yet a student, go to the Temporary Password Request page to generate another Temporary password. You must know your UVa computing ID and SIS ID number (or retrieve these IDs now) to do this.

(Note: The way you reset your password will be different later, once you become a current student who has gone through in-person identity verification and obtained a Permanent password.)

If you're a UVa employee (and not primarily a student), have you completed your in-person identity verification process?

Tip: Check whether you have completed your in-person identity verification process by using the Personal Security Question Test.

Yes, I have completed my identity verification.
No, I haven't completed my identity verification.

Solution

As a student in the School of Continuing and Professional Studies, you need to go directly to the SCPS website to reset or obtain your Permanent password.)

Do you have a digital certificate that will get you through NetBadge to at least one UVa service?

(If you're on your own computer and you can connect it to UVa's encrypted cavalier wireless network, you can try logging into NetBadge with your personal digital certificate—a faster, more secure option than ID and password anyway! Simply click the red Log In button on the NetBadge login page.)

Yes, I am able to log in through NetBadge.
No, I cannot log in through NetBadge.

Solution

You have a UVa Email for Life account, so you can use that same email password (which is your Permanent UVa password) to log into NetBadge for other tasks like requesting an official transcript.

  1. If you have forgotten your Permanent password, contact ISPRO Access Management for assistance with resetting a provisional password.
  2. Once you have obtained a provisional password from ISPRO Access Management, you can use it to log in and reset your password with the Manage Your Passwords & Personal Security Questions tool.
Solution

You can reset (and optionally synchronize) your passwords by going to the Manage Your Passwords & Personal Security Questions tool.

Solution
  1. Go to the Temporary Password Request page to generate another Temporary password so you can provisionally log into NetBadge. You must know your UVa computing ID and SIS ID number (or retrieve these IDs now) to do this.
  2. Once you have a Temporary password, you can use it to log in and reset your Permanent password (and optionally synchronize it with your other passwords) with the Manage Your Passwords & Personal Security Questions tool.
  3. Once you have reset your Permanent password, you no longer need your provisional Temporary password.
Solution
  1. Contact ISPRO Access Management for assistance.
  2. Once you have obtained a provisional password from ISPRO Access Management, you can use it and the answer to one of your personal security questions to log in and reset your password (and optionally synchronize it with your other passwords) at the Manage Your Passwords & Personal Security Questions tool.
Solution
  1. Please follow the steps to complete the ID verification process. If you are located too far from Grounds to verify your identity in person, please contact ISPRO Access Management.
  2. Once you have completed ID verification, use the Manage Your Passwords & Personal Security Questions tool to log in and reset your password (and optionally synchronize it with your other passwords).
